I recently joined Sound Cloud just because a reliable friend told me it would be a neat site to be a part of. The gist of it is that SoundCloud lets you move music fast & easy. The platform takes the daily hassle out of receiving, sending & distributing music for artists, record labels & other music professionals. Not being a true musician myself, I still see its potential as an awesome service for storing and sharing music.
I actually shared the knowledge with some musician friends of mine who truly seem like they love the idea and will benefit from joining Sound Cloud and when I do a brief google search, I see that a lot of others have caught on as well.
This seems to be the true example of Web 2.0 taking over and allowing us to do so many things that we would have never fathomed doing or sharing before.
So share the sound!

What is popup advertising?

Pop-up ads or popups are a form of online advertising on the World Wide Web intended to attract web traffic or capture email addresses. It works when web sites open a new web browser to display these ads. This window is usually generated by JavaScript and has become a true pest to all of us who use the internet today. Another variation of the popup is the popunder advertising that is a similar concept, except you can expect it to appear on the page you are browsing and linger at the bottom until you choose to acknowledge it.
Popups became popular because of online advertising, the banner ad, wasn't working as a marketing tool. The "click through rate" on banners was terrible, and marketers were skeptical that the Web would ever become a advertising medium. With banner ads, online ad spending declined from $8.1 billion in 2000 to $6 billion in 2002.
That year, however, annoying online ads began to catch on in a big way. How well they work is debatable; the main thing is, marketers thought they worked, and online spending increased to $7.3 billion in 2003 and a projected $9.1 billion in 2004.
From that point forward, people became extremely annoyed with this form of advertising and as we moved into 2007, Forrester research identified that 81% of broadband users now have pop-up blocking software installed and now in 2008, it is likely to be higher than that.

Jump to the cut!
So I'm pretty sure I've been looking for a site like this for my entire life!
A place where I can compile my photos and make awesome videos for friends and family to see.
I only just found out about JumpCut in our class when we were supposed to create a social awareness video, but now- I'm hooked!
Basically, it's as easy as pie:
You use a simple wizard
They say "Everything should be this easy. Especially making movies."
* Give your movie a title
* Upload your stuff and go
Start the Wizard
Use one of your sets
You got yourself organized, now get creative.
* Choose a set to use
* they create a movie automatically
and TADAAA!!
Seriously, it's that easy, but in case you don't believe me, here is a video tutorial:

Adopt a pet
This is the video I made for our Social Media & PR class to raise social awareness on an issue that is extremely important to me.
I am hoping to inspire people to adopt pets instead of relying on breeders who carelessly mistreat and make their animals procreate for the sake of making money.
So adopt a dog and safe a life!

New York Times' election day Tag Cloud
After learning about Tag Clouds in our Social Media and PR class, I became extremely interested in their aesthetic. I think they are fun and user friendly and I believe that they are highly effective in finding the web sites you are looking for.
Needless to say, on election day, I was surprised to see that The New York Times had adopted this new social media and means of communicating with its readers and allowed them to express their views, ideas, and emotions on that historic day.

New facebook, here to stay!
The Compete blog has showed us some cool statistics on users that have made the switch to Facebook. In comparison to changes in the past, the latest shift has happened at a more user friendly pace. Most people, as mentioned in my previous blog were upset about this change, but data now shows that over 100 million Facebook users have made the choice to switch to the new Facebook profiles that they were once so hesitant to accept.Though some people may be scared of change, I feel as though the fact that Facebook allowed people to make this change progressively makes the idea much easier to swallow.
Now we must wait and see if Facebook's team will now be more motivated to push change on users or if they will let them digest this new wave and then come back at a later time with new ideas.

The hunt for the speeding muppet

Doesn't sound like anything we should take seriously, does it?
Well, it is, there is a person in Germany who is driving a car built for UK roads and has put a Muppet in the passenger seat. The speeding cameras in Germany are designed to take photos of drivers who sit in the left side of the vehicle, so if the drivers are driving UK style cars- then it will be much harder to identify them.
The German police said “The number plate is not enough. We need clear evidence of who is driving the vehicle too.
But because this is a British vehicle we can never get a decent picture. The driver has obviously worked this out because he has placed a large puppet in the passenger seat.
This may be an example of the famous British sense of humour but it is still dangerous driving. The driver has been caught on camera on several occasions and the puppet is on the passenger seat every time. We suspect he positions the toy deliberately before accelerating past the camera.”
